Want to get your groceries at a fraction of the cost? Want to bless a family in need? Angel Food is the way to do it! What is it? Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States. The program began in 1994 with 34 families in Georgia and now serves 500,000 people a month. Liberty Christian Church is an official host cite for Angel Food Ministries.
A $30 Angel Food box of groceries retails for an average of $60/box. The box includes fresh and frozen items (meats, fruits) that are restaurant-grade quality, and the menu changes monthly. We've seen brand names such as Schwan's, Bar-S, Mrs. Smith's and Kraft in our boxes. The items are not damaged or "day old" products. Also offered are specialty boxes with items such as steak, chicken or pork.
Generally, the $30 box will feed a family of four for a week or a single adult, perhaps a senior citizen, for a month. The best part is that there are no income qualifications to buy a box! Anyone wanting to save money on groceries can buy a box. Also at Liberty Christian Church, we accept Food Stamps (EBT). A family can either buy a box for themselves or become an Angel Sponsor and purchase a box (even anonymously if desired) for a family or friend in need. Donated boxes are tax deductible.
How do I get it? There are several ways to place an order. You can come in person during listed order times and one of the Angel Food Directors will help you place the order. You can fill out your order form and mail it to Liberty Christian Church (please be aware of the post marked date). Or you can go on-line to www.angelfoodministries.com and place your order with a debit or credit card. (Please note, there is a $1.00 convenience charge for using on-line ordering.) Our Angel Food Coordinators take orders before church on Saturday nights from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m. We take orders every weekend EXCEPT the weekend before the distribution date (see below. On distribution weekend we only take orders during the distribution times of 9-11 a.m. We currently take personal checks, cash, credit/debit card or EBT as payment methods.
You can also mail a check with your order. You must include your name, address, phone number, what you’d like and a self-addressed stamped envelope for us to mail you a receipt back in. Checks must be made out to Liberty Christian Church. Orders mailed must be postmarked on or before the 1st of the month.
The orders are then tallied and turned into the Angel Food main office in Georgia. Two weeks after the last order day, Liberty Christian Church picks up the food from the local Angel Food Distribution Center. We take it back to Liberty Christian Church and box up the orders ahead of time so that all you have to do is walk in and pick it up! Because many items are frozen, you must pick up your box on distribution day between 9-11 a.m. We cannot store boxes that aren't picked up on time. Therefore, leftover boxes will be donated that day to another family and no refund is available. Please bring a box (apple boxes are just the right size) to pick up your food!
